Camping & Comfort

There’s been some discussion around here lately regarding the subject of camping & comfort. In my opinion, these two do not go hand in hand.
That’s why God created Boy Scouts.
MR. Eagle Scout suggested it would be great fun and that maybe I would be more in the mood {what kind of mood might that be honey?} if I had my own uniform!
He said I could sew on as many badges as I wanted!
Sure thing. Right after I sew on a discrete flat pocket to hold my slim straight shooter ~
Oh, calm down. I’m talking about a slim straight shooter from Stanley. “For those occasions that require more than a toast.”
Then there’s the question of accommodations.
 Yes?
Remember it goes everywhere I go?

Didn’t think so.
There must be a better way…
There is!
Born from the love of the California landscape combined with nostalgia for the days of summer camp.

Shelter Co. provides fully furnished European style canvas tents for a luxury lodging experience.
Shelter Co.
Shelter Co. packages include all necessary amenities and are fully customized to meet individual needs!
Shelter Co.
Shelter Co. also offers a “Camping Butler” who will unobtrusively stoke your fire, pour your favorite liquor, {you can still bring your straight shooter Stanley} and provide turndown service?

Shelter Co.
It’s as easy as one, two, three.
Pick your spot.
With Shelter Co., you get to pick wherever you want your campsite to be.  A mountain top, a vineyard, a beach, even your own backyard. The possibilities are endless!
Pick your amenities.
I’m signing up for lighted paths, campfires, lawn & board games, a doggy tent, a private bath with organic toiletries, and yoga.
Sit back & relax.
Stargaze, sing songs, roast marshmallows, and get to know nature.
Shelter Co.
I think I might be getting in the mood.
 Shelter Co.
They say that camping will renew my love of the great outdoors. What I love is that the folks at Shelter Co. will pack it all up after we depart and leave things just the way nature intended.
Now accepting reservations.

Hmmm.  I’ll let you know.
Feeling a bit more adventurous & want to take it to the next level? Clayoquot.
If you prefer the comforts of home but enjoy smoky, woodsy stories, pictorials, and videos you’ll love Kinfolk.

If you’re a hippie at heart you’ll love The Yard.
The Yard If you were a Blue Bird like I was you’ll remember this. I think it could easily be The Blogger Wish too!

A Huge Honkin’ Hoe-Down

It’s been a busy week around here. To celebrate the Fall season my son’s youth group kicked things off  with a
Huge Honkin’ Hoe-Down!
The Walt Disney Co.
His best friend’s family graciously hosted the event this year at their beautiful homestead just outside of Lexington~
If you’ve been reading this blog for any amount of time, then you know I’ve always dreamt of owning a barn. So I jumped at the chance to help out & express my inner Carolyne Roehm Passion for Parties!
Right on queue & in typical Bluegrass style, our weather went from a warm & heavenly 77 to a wet & gnarly 35 and suddenly my inner Carolyne Roehm was nowhere to be found!
But guess who was around with great spirit & goodwill ~
The Cowen family, the Porter family, TCPC Youth Minister Jonathan Hansen & his incredible crew! We all worked tirelessly after church, after school, after work, between ballet, book club, chorus try-outs, and trips to the Vet!
On October 31st the bonfire was lit & the party was on!
Cowen Farm & Bonfire
Guests arrived at the barn via hay wagon thanks to Mr. Cowen & John Deer.
Fresh Fall foliage tied with muslin, colorful homemade pendants, family saddles propped on farm fences, a gazillion white lights, and that big beautiful black barn provided a visual feast of the season’s offerings!
Just add hay, hot food, iTunes & 100 teens & you have yourself a hoe-down!
My apologies for the iPhone photos. They were so grainy & blurry so I edited them & added grunge with Snapseed to try and fake you out.
Barn Lights
Hey! Do you know how hard it is to snap photos while square dancing Gangnam Style?
Mine were there!
The Porters at Huge Honkin' Hoe-Down 2012
The pizza guy was there too.
Food and Table Decor
Also on queue ~ my son’s best friend.
Sumo Wrestler Spencer Cowen.

He might as well know right now that I’m hanging on to the video of him dancing Gangnam style in his Mawashi & Nikes for some other special occasion.

Yes there were dance contests, prizes for best costume & then everyone headed out for the bonfire & a good old fashioned game of capture the flag ~
in the dark!
It was wild.  Trust me.
A big Thank You to TCPC and to the Cowen family. It was most definitely a night to remember!
