I love this scene from Love Story where Harvard pre-law hockey player Oliver Barrett IV and Radcliffe music student Jenny Cavalleri are speeding along on a cold winter's day in his classic MG. I also love that they are sporting classic trench and camel hair coats.
Long a staple for men and normally relegated to our Winter wardrobes, this season, trench, proper wool & camel hair coats are in abundance.
This camel coat may be a little on the dark side of the color spectrum, but it's still the perfect sort of coat to take you through Autumn & into Fall.
The camel coat has proved to be the perfect layering piece for the cold days we're still facing. If you haven't laid your hands on one already, do so. Remember, the classics never go out of style!
On Monday, before my fly fishing lesson, I had to stop by the Jeep dealership.
While I was waiting in the customer service lounge, I thumbed through the latest Town & Country, Architectural Digest & Veranda...Don't you wish every waiting room had this assortment! Anyway, I was drooling over the T&C Fall Fashion Issue which featured these beautiful coats. I loved them all and wanted to share!

In closing...I'm headed to Fresh Market, The Mousetrap Wine & Cheese Shop, and the Video store. It's a good night to rent Love Story because it doesn't get much more romantic than doing the rounds at the Wollman Rink. Remember, its where Oliver and Jenny went skating in Central Park. I'll probably have the soaring music in my head for days.

ReplyDeleteYou had me hunting today Lisa, I remembered a cashmere coat that I had from years ago that sort of looks like the second one and I just had to find it. Found it! My closet does need a good, overdue purge! I love trench coats, my classic Burberry black trench is my winter standby, worth every penny as I have been wearing it to death for 8 years now. Always a good investment when it is a classic piece. I like it when you do one of your in-depth posts........because I may have forgotten about that old favorite for another year. And it is warm and cosy.

Lisa you are such a marvelous writer. Yet another gorgeous & entertaining post. I am a huge fan of camel coats & most definitely the classic trench. I'm a girl who loves coats just as much as I love shoes. I'm going to start practicing my poses now to submit my best shot on 'Art of the Trench'. This outta be interesting! How about that photo of the little girl in her Burberry? She is so darn adorable. Thank you Lisa & I think I must watch Love Story now!!

ReplyDeleteYou have such a gift of weaving your stories. Those camel-hairs are beautiful, I particularly fancy the dark one. I am not fond of coats, wear them if absolutely nothing else will do. I think all those years of living in Alaska thickened up my blood and even living in the south hasn't thinned it out enough! My mom recently gave me my grandmother's black mink, knee length. I think I will be sporting that this fall!

I bought a cashmere camel coat ten years ago when we moved to London...I've worn it almost every winter...so nice to be back in fashion!

ReplyDeleteI do love a good coat Lisa but I'm too short to pull off a calf-length one elegantly, so need to stick to the shorter ones. I've got a gorgeous knee length black cashmere 60's style, double breasted with rows of scrumptious big silver buttons. Every time I wear it I get lots of lovely compliments, even from the all sons chums. Lovely post sweet girl.
