Splendid Straw

There is nothing that says summer like straw. Especially when it comes to hats!
I love straw hats & I live in them all summer long. It's so easy to grab a hat & scarf as I head out the door.

We always have an assortment on hand to choose from.  I just like how they look all lined up together like these. That must be the favorite on the bench.
How "beachy".  She likes her straw hats so much, they have their own sunny spot.

Many have long lives and wonderful stories to tell.
This hat must belong to an artist or writer. Someone who enjoys long leisurely walks on the beach or through the garden.

How romantic. This beauty seems to be flirting with the breeze.

In case you haven't noticed I am a hat kind of girl.  Straw for beach and garden, a cap for tennis & little league. And I love big sturdy hooks!  I have these all over my house. Found one at Restoration Hardware, and the rest at Home Goods!  Have you been to Home Goods lately?

This wonderful assortment appears to belong to the adventurous couple.
Simple & fresh. Perfect for the farmer's market.

Crisp & casual, probably a designers place at the beach. She certainly likes her slipcovers, sisal & straw. Reminds me of someone...in Texas.
When Victoria Amory entertains at home by the pool, she provides her guests in the sun with beautiful hats that compliment her table setting.  I love that Victoria!

To me, there is nothing better than sitting on the beach, toes buried in the sand, hat pulled down low, a good book in hand.

A little cleaning tip for light or white straw hats. 1 glass of water and juice of 1 lemon.
Combine water & lemon in a spray bottle.  Spray or lightly brush your hat, inside & out.
Leave to take effect for a few minutes, then rinse with clean water.
Leave to dry in the open air.

  1. What a truly stunning array of straw hats Lisa! I don't know about MOTH & Millie being adventurous - I do love a straw hat though but it has to be stylish, a la the extraordinary Aussie designer Helen Kaminski. My current number was carted all the way back from Langkawi in Malaysia - MOTH whinged all the way about having to carry it from plane to plane!. I fell in love with its perfect shape, so had to have it. MOTH had a very dapper one for years, & one day it simply disintergrated of old age & wear & tear. Hope he doesn't do the same until he's finished the bathroom!!

  2. You make me envious! I have just put all our straw hats away and brought out the heavy felts and dare I say it the head hugging (but fashionable!) knitted caps. Anything to keep our heads warm. First frost this morning!

  3. That sweet little guy is the perfect intro to your post.

I share the love of hats with you Lisa. A lovely brimmed straw hat to accompany my current read is a must have at the beach. Throw in a glass of wine and I'm all set for an afternoon. I'll save a beach chair for you :)

    Hope you're having a great day~

  4. What a fantastic post Lisa! I love straw hats... and that one of the hat on the chair on the beach, reminded me exactly of how our little piece of beach in Mexico looked every morning when we were on vacation last fall... what a great way to start the day this morning!

  6. Straw hats so bring out the warm fuzzies of summer! You've inspired me to dust off mine and hang them on the hall tree. I live in a large straw hat all summer when out in the garden. I love how it offers a little personal space of shade. Beautiful photos. xoTrina

  7. I have more than a few straw hats as well, but my favorite one is a huge (and I mean huge) black and natural straw that I bought in France. Keeps my fair skin well-protected. You always do a subject so well Lisa. Have a great weekend. Much love XO
