Fillies, Lilies and More...

The girls are a bit busy around here this weekend.
The Kentucky Derby’s little sister, the Kentucky Oaks is running today and features fillies and lilies and lots of things women appreciate.
At the heart of the Oaks is support for charities and the life-long commitment many women have made to raise money and awareness for causes that are important to them and their families.

In 2009, Churchill Downs initiated a new Oaks tradition by partnering with two charities that work tirelessly to prevent breast cancer.

When Churchill Downs selected an official charity partner for the Kentucky Oaks event, it made perfect sense to work with Susan G.Komen for the Cure, given its focus and the tremendous support it already enjoys from women around the world.
call to post
Founded in 1982 and now the world’s largest nonprofit organization dedicated to raising funds for fighting breast cancer, Susan G. Komen for the Cure has played an essential role in giving hope, promoting early detection, and supporting research to those diagnosed with breast cancer.
Horses and Hope work to increase breast cancer awareness among racing fans and stable area workers at Kentucky racetracks while providing breast cancer screenings at racing venues through on-site mammograms.
So get ready for a fun-filled weekend and I'll see you at the finish!
Even if you can't make it out to the Oaks, I encourage you to learn more about these important organizations. Help make a difference!

  1. Gorgeous, good post Lisa. Such a fabulous cause. I wish lung cancer had as much support but it does not due to the stigma of smoking attached. Unlike my mom who never smoked. I support all efforts to fight all cancers. Bravo to the Kentucky Derby & thanks for bringing this to light. Have great fun time my friend! xx

  7. Hi Lisa! What a beautiful thing what your daughter has done - truly says something special about the mother...Happy early Mother's day to you Lisa........

there is a similar place for rehabilitation near our home, and my daughter has taken some interest in it - and I hope it keeps up - if anything, just for the smiles on the rider's faces on that horse....

    beautiful post
