Summer Afternoon

Summer afternoon,
two of the most beautiful words in the English language.

Sultry, Steaming, Sweltering.

It's time to shed ambition and expectation, along with commutes, clothing, calendars & cell phones.

Slow down or stop.

Because even though the pursuit of happiness becomes a priority...

Deep in the heart of summer,
laziness finds respectability.

They say that in every girl's life;
there's a boy she'll never forget
and a summer where it all began.

 So true.

I think summer is not so much a season.

It's more like a melody of contentment
that I often find myself humming,

 as the day begins to blur and comes to a beautiful end.

Hope you're enjoying plenty of beautiful summer afternoons.

  3. Gorgeous poem, I feel like I just stepped into a perfect summery dream! I loved your prose and the pictures went beautifully along with it. So true about those summers where a first love began, I sure remember being 16 and falling in love (or so I thought, it was puppy love which is so sweet) Summer is more than a season, its a state of mind....a feeling that I wouldn't mind having for all four seasons! Beautiful Lisa!!

  6. So lovely!! I'm afraid I took on too much this summer and so wish I could be in this state of mind. I have only myself to blame - oh well. I love your phrase "laziness finds respectability"!!

  7. Lisa that was beautiful, in every sense of the meaning.

    "They say that in every girl's life;
    there's a boy she'll never forget
    and a summer where it all began." .. Yes I have to agree. Thinking.. boy from 4-H, the State Fair, and hoping just to get a glimpse of him @ the cow barn. Oh how very romantic!! I hope your summer is all of the above.
    Much love,
    Deb
